The destroyer's military insignia was established on June 4, 1940 by Grand Admiral Reader as Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine. This badge was established in recognition and encouragement of young crew members, for the crews of destroyers operating at Narvik, who distinguished themselves in the fight against England. The badge was awarded to the leaders of the destroyers. In expansion, the badge was also awarded to the crews of other destroyers, torpedo boats and high-speed boats that distinguished themselves with special achievements. The award provisions were repeatedly amended to include, among other things, injuries or survival of crews after being sunk by the enemy. The number of awards is estimated at 6,000. The design was made by sculptor Paul Kazberg from Berlin.
