The front submarine brace was donated by Commander-in-Chief Kriegsmarine Karl Dönitz on 15 May 1944. Thus, the constant hard work of submarine crews against enemy military and merchant ships was appreciated. In addition, injustice should be eliminated in relation to other types of weapons that have long received front-line braces. Already in 1941, submarine crews appeared, which exceeded the conditions for obtaining an anti-submarine combat mark. A prerequisite for the award, in addition to impeccable leadership, was successful participation in 15 enemy campaigns. However, the practice of appropriation was focused on completed nautical days. The front bar in bronze was usually awarded after 90 nautical days. November 24, 1944 due to overfulfillment of the requirements, the advanced bar was donated in silver. The front bar in gold for submarines was planned, but was never awarded. Whether copies have already been made is unknown. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen before 1945, vol.
