In accordance with the previously granted honorary sheet of the ground forces and the honorary list of the Luftwaffe, on February 23, 1943, Grand Admiral Raeder established an honorary plaque to the Kriegsmarine. A year later, on May 13, 1944, his successor as commander-in-chief of the Kriegsmarine, Grand Admiral Dönitz, established the corresponding screed. This was the external sign for those soldiers who were included in this table. Soldiers who received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross or the German Cross in Gold as a reward were included on the honor roll, but did not receive this clasp. A badge of honour was issued to soldiers already awarded the Iron Cross 1. They were excellent in class and proved themselves brave again, but not enough to be awarded the Knight's Cross or the German Cross in Gold. Yet this act had to go beyond the usual duty and courage. The dead sailors could be awarded this award posthumously. The screed was worn in a buttonhole on the 1939 Iron Cross ribbon, but not on the order's buckles. Kriegsmarine shackles are significantly less common than those of the army. Exact award figures are not known. The screed was manufactured by Otto Klein, Hanau.
Openwork, round clasp made of gilded non-ferrous metal. On the rear side there are 4 soldered pins for attachment to the tape.
