The naval artillery badge was established in recognition of responsible and successful battles in the field of air defense on warships on June 24, 1941 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine, Grand Admiral Raeder. Servicemen of all ranks who scored a certain number of points in this battle were eligible. There were points, including for shooting down combat aircraft, successful detection of aircraft with anti-aircraft spotlights, or for radar enemy combat formations. Lists were kept for this. There were also exceptions, such as exceptional achievements, merits in the management of troops and rewarding the dead, which approximately corresponded to the score. During the existence of the award, the circle of persons who received this award has expanded.
