The general assault sign was established on June 1, 1940 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, Colonel General von Brauchitsch. It was intended for those parts of the army that were not eligible for the "Assault Infantry" or "Tank Battle Mark" insignia. The requirements for the award were the same as for the infantry assault sign: participation in 3 assault attacks, on the front line, hacking with weapons and on 3 different days. Posthumous awards are possible. On 22 June 1943, following Hitler's approval by Colonel Rudolf Schmundt, higher levels with operation numbers 25, 50, 75 and 100 were introduced. Operational days were counted from July 1, 1943. The previously achieved 3 days were credited. The provision for soldiers who had long fought at the front in the East or Africa stated that after 15 months they were allowed to use 25 days, after 12 months - 15 days, and after 8 months - 10 days. With a serious wound, the next stage could be assigned after 18, 35 or 60 days of operation, when the wounded was no longer able to act. When transferring to another unit, only one grade of storm sign (Infantry or Allgemeine Sturmabzeichen) was allowed to be worn. The author of the project is Wilhelm E. Pickhouse from Berlin. Notable manufacturers with usage numbers 75 and 100 are Josef Feix & Söhne of Gablonz, Juncker, Berlin. Solid material badges and half badges were made. Source: J. Punched manufactured badge of gilded and patinated zinc. The wreath is gilded and the bandages patinated. At the bottom of the wreath is a quadrangular, gilded brass shield (8 x 6 mm) with a black bottom. Stops are connected with rim 4 by rivets. On the back is a vertical pin. Along the edge of the manufacturer's mark.
