This 1914/1918 Saxon War Merit Medal was established and issued after the World War, probably around 1920 by the Saxon Front Line Union in the 1914/1918 German Warrior Union. This medal was issued in gold (bronze gilded) silver, bronze silver plated. Of both medals, there are 2 coinage options with different faces. The main difference is the position of the rifle and the strokes between the numbers of the year. The first variant shows the barrel slightly tilted upwards, and the vertical lines between 1914 and 1918 are long. In the second version, the rifle barrel is directed more sharply upward, and the contours between the two numbers of the year are shorter. What requirements were imposed on individual steps or whether the metal color of the rest of the order twine was adjusted, I do not know. As for silver medals, the financial capabilities of the recipient probably played a role, regardless of whether the medal was ordered in genuine silver or silver, since awards, as a rule, had to be paid on their own. Medals are rare and, accordingly, expensive. Source: J. Nimmergut, badges and awards of German warrior clubs 1800-1943, 2012.
