The Fire Service Cross of Honour was established on 26 September 1925 by the Bavarian State Fire Union. Firefighters and non-firefighters distinguished themselves. For firefighters, crosses with red enamel and red and white ribbon came to the award ceremony. People who did not serve in the fire department received crosses with blue enamel and blue and white ribbon. Crosses continued to be awarded, in both colours, with and without a crown. Crosses with a coronation were granted for outstanding services in extinguishing the fire. Without a coronation, this award was presented for special services in extinguishing a fire. Beginning in 1932, blue enameled crosses were awarded to firefighters who had served faithfully for at least 41 years. (From the age of 50, the cross was awarded for 50 years of service) However, blue crosses for length of service were awarded on a red and white ribbon. The fireman's cross of honour shown here, complete with coronation and red enamel, has only been awarded 185 times. This award was also presented to foreigners. On the cross (end of the crosses) there are silver punches. Or 990, or 935, or 1000. The Firefighters' Cross of Honour in red without coronation was awarded 321 times.
