The Cross of the German Confession was established by the General German People's Community (also the German People's Order). The general German folk community in the 1920s was a kind of umbrella association of German-national and nationalist unions. The concept of the German people has long been outdated. The first union was the "German Union," which was founded in 1894 and took care to preserve German citizenship. Similar alliances, such as the Union of Colonial Warriors or the All-German Union, also cared for German settlements abroad. They were explained by emigration or colonization. The cornerstone has always been German ancestry and nationality. Thus, it is possible that the General German People's Community was a body for the care and involvement of German "people's communities" located abroad. Unfortunately, we could not get more detailed information. The headquarters of the federal leadership was in Königstein am Elbe, the federal leader was Max Otto, and the 1st federal chairman was Hermann Steuer. With the ban of the National Socialists after the Hitler coup in Munich, radical and nationalist associations formed as a replacement, such as the Deutschvölkische Schutz-und Trutzbund, which fought against the Weimar Republic and already bore anti-Semitic features.
The National Socialists then used the concept of the German folk community for their propaganda in connection with the racial doctrine and race of masters. Thus, until now, the concept of "German people's community" has a bitter taste.
Crosses were probably donated in 2 classes, with swords as 1. Class and without 2. Class with different ribbons. It was also about the Comtur cross, which I could not find. Of the crosses, there are 2 different modes of production. The 1st form has on the upper cruciform shoulder a round one with a stamped ear and with a stamped middle shield. The form shown here has a soldered ordinary eye on top and a separate medallion. Sizes also vary somewhat. Cross size 42.5 x 42.7 mm with eye 46.8 mm. There is no inscription on the reverse and only about 1.5 mm thick. Shown here is somewhat larger, with a reverse inscription and a thickness of about 2 mm.
Gilded non-ferrous metal cross. The cruciform shoulders of the front side are golden-border with wide black enameled edges. The inner sides of the crosses are enameled in white. In front is a round enameled central shield. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
