This token of gratitude was established after 1925 by the Imperial Ministry of the Interior. Sponsors of the Emergency Community of German Sciences received this medal. The exact conditions or requirements for the award are unknown. The medals were made by Wagner & Sohn in Berlin. It is believed that the project was developed by Professor Alfred Lörcher of the Württemberg State School of Applied Arts in Stuttgart. The reason is the artist's signature -AL- on the front. But this is different compared to Alfred Lörcher's confirmed signings. Circulation and award numbers are also unknown. However, a low double-digit number should be assumed, as only high-profile high-level scientists and dignitaries are known as carriers.
The Emergency Community of German Sciences was founded on October 30, 1920. The initiative came from 5 academies of sciences. The reason for this was the difficult financial situation due to inflation. Among them were Nobel Prize winners Fritz Haber, Friedrich Schmidt-Ott, former Prussian Minister of Culture and scholars Adolf von Harnack, Max Planck and Hermann Diels. The allocated funds should be effectively distributed in the interests of the whole society to implement the right projects with maximum return. The first president was Friedrich Schmidt-Ott. In 1929, the name was changed to Deutsche Gemeinschaft to preserve and promote research. Under National Socialism, the community was equalized and dissolved.
The medal is a high silver oval with a raised border. An ornamented suspension in the form of a sitting owl is soldered on top.
