The military badge for war invalids was established on October 8, 1943 by the chief of staff of the SA Shepmann. Permission for this was given by Adolf Hitler. The fund was an extension of the SA Sports Badge and Repetitive Exercise Fund. Thus, the sign could be awarded to all war invalids who participated in non-military training in the organizations of the NSDAP and distinguished themselves before the enemy. The design rules specified the presentation. Men had to be over 18 years old. Incapacitated persons who received a military injury were required to conduct an official check under medical supervision. Other still serviceable persons wounded or damaged during the war could receive the badge if they participated in military training prior to damage and proved their combat readiness. The insignia for war invalids also had to be confirmed in repeated examinations.
Badges were made of bronze and military metal. Notable manufacturers were W. Redo, Saarlautern and Deschler & Sohn, Munich.
