German Awards - Hitler Youth Iron Insignia (1st level)
The badge of achievement for the Hitler Youth was established on June 1, 1934 by the Reichsügendführer Baldur von Schirach. This was to increase the fighting spirit of Hitler's youth and readiness to fulfill their duty. Every Hitler youth and Fuhrer should strive to conquer this sign. The ideological side was ensured by mandatory participation in at least 8 home evenings. There, national socialist values and worldview became closer to young people in the form of trainings. In addition to participating in home evenings, there were 3 areas to complete. 1. Exercise, 2. Target and marching exercises and 3. All-terrain vehicle. The last 2 areas were already aimed at possible hostilities and were in the nature of pre-war training. But individual tasks were not very high, so every Hitlerite could perform them. The achievement mark was awarded in 3 stages in a staggered order by age. 15-year-olds received a badge in iron, 16-year-olds in bronze, and 17-year-olds and older in silver. The award was made by the Reichsportführer. The signs were made of a wide variety of materials. There are also deviations in size and weight. Signs of the 1st stage were also minted hollow in iron sheet. Each step had embroidery. In total, more than 300,000 copies were handed over at all stages.
