With the consent of the President of the German Red Cross, the awards awarded until then were replaced by the badge of honor of the German People's Guardianship. It was founded on 1 May 1939 by Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler. It was awarded in 4th grades (tiers) and a special degree for services to national welfare, winter assistance, caring for the sick and wounded in war and peacetime, rescue, and caring and caring for Germans abroad. A special tier was a 4-tier breast star with an assigned cross (it is not known about the award), the 1st tier was a neck order (52 mm), the 2nd tier was a plug-in cross (52 mm), the 3rd tier was a cross on a ribbon (40 mm), and as the 4th tier - a medal for German folk care. Germans and foreigners who received merit were awarded. Since 1942, a 2-year activity in the national economy was considered a prerequisite for the award. But special circumstances also allowed exceptions. This included, among other things, round birthdays, direct assistance to the wounded, own injury or old age. The dates of the award were January 30 and May 1 of the corresponding year. When raising, it was necessary to return the lower level. In the event of the death of the awarded, the award remained with the relatives of the victims.
