Police awards were established on January 30, 1938 on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the seizure of power by the National Socialists, Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler. The award consisted of 3 stages. Level 1 in 25 years of loyal service, Level 2 in 18 years, and Level 3 in 8 years of loyal police service. Terms of service in military service and as a civil servant were counted. From 1940, the service award could also be given to reactivated retirees. Their seniority before retirement also counted. In November 1941, former Austrian and Sedetian German officials were also included. Since 1942, as a component of the police reserve, the number of persons eligible for admission also included the air guard police. 1 and 2. The steps are gilded or silver plated. The most 3rd level is a medal. Since 1942, badges of honor began to be made in zinc silver. Oak leaves donated on August 12, 1944 for 40 years of service of the 1st stage were no longer made or awarded. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen before 1945, vol. IV, 2001.
