Elector Wilhelm II. instituted this Civil Merit Medal in 1821. Low-ranking court and civil servants and community employees were awarded. The reason for the award was long faithful services, charitable inventions, use in dangerous situations (salvation) or other merits for the benefit of the regent, the public or other fellow citizens.
The medal was established in silver. There are also bronze medals. Whether these medals were donated as underclass or are private orders is completely unconfirmed. These medals were only awarded from 1821 to 1832 and are therefore extremely rare. Medals were no longer awarded after the establishment of Civil Merit. Crosses in gold and silver in 2 versions were awarded. 1st under William II. and 2nd option after the assumption of office of Frederick William I 21.11.1847.
