German Awards - Silver Medal of Merit of the Duke of Saxe-Ernestine Order with swords on the ring 1935
The "Silver Medal of Merit of the Duke of Saxe-Ernestine of the House with Swords," full name, was established jointly by the dukes listed below along with the Order of the House. Initially, this medal was awarded only in silver. Only in 1864 silver gilded medals began to be awarded. The corresponding medals of the duchies had the image of the ruler of the corresponding duchy. The award shown here is the 3rd form of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. The first form was portrayed by Duke Ernst I, and the second by Duke Alfred. The reverse was the same for all ducal merit medals. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. III, 1999.
