The medal was established jointly with the Order of Albrecht the Bear on November 18, 1836 by 3 dukes. It was awarded as a reward for loyalty and devotion, talents and legitimate service activities. He was awarded silver and gold. The Silver Medal of Merit was awarded to "little people" as the lowest level of the Order of the House. The mandate included mainly artisans, miners, farmers, railroad workers, police officers, foresters and non-commissioned officials. Non-commissioned ranks in the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 were also awarded. Until the end of World War I, the medal was made only of silver. Weight ranges from 10.3 g to 13.7 g. Due to the long rental period, there are various manufacturers and differences in brands. On July 18, 1864, the Order of Military Merit was established. They were gilded on both silver and gold bronze medals. On August 19, 1904, Duke Frederick II. the crown was granted for special merits to medals.
