Cross shown here, Order of the Red Eagle 4. The class with swords and purple eagles is the first form to be awarded swords. Swords were created in 1848 as a result of hostilities. These crosses with purple eagles were granted only in 1848-1849.
Since 1854, the raspberry (purple) color has been replaced by scarlet, and the eagle has become more elegant in design.
Early crosses range in size from 39 mm to 37.5 mm. Crosses may have solid relief cross bodies and two-part cross bodies. Weight from 10.9 to 13.9 g.
On June 12, 1792, King Frederick William II. this order as a royal household order. The Royal Order of the Red Eagle originated from the highest Brandenburg Order of the Red Eagle. As changes, he introduced the Prussian royal crown, instead of the princely crown, and the letters F-W-R (Friedrich, Wilhelm, Rex, that is, the king) on the reverse. During the existence of the award, many changes have been made. In 1810, the order was established by King Frederick William III. expanded to the 2nd and 3rd grade and presented oak leaves for the 1st and 2nd grade. The crosses were originally 2nd and 3rd. Same size class. Since 1817, the 3rd class has become smaller, and the existing old crosses as the 2nd. The class is assigned. Early crosses with purple eagles are very rare. This form with swords for military merit is extremely rare. A total of 293 awards were received. However, due to the mandatory return, significantly fewer crosses are obtained. Source: J. Silver cross. The edges of the cruciform shoulders are bordered by 3 thin lines. The inner sides of the crosses are smooth. Front side with a round central shield on. 2 crossed golden swords with Roman paired poles pass through the center. Above is a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
