This order was donated by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig in memory of the heir to Henry I, the first Landgrave of Hesse. The latter came from the house of the Dukes of Brabant and thus gave the order its name. The foundation was established by decree of June 24, 1914, dated the birthday of Henry I (otherwise June 14, 1914).
He was awarded mainly for services to the princely house and the people, as well as for charity and charity. It was created solely for civilian purposes. World War I brought few rewards. The order was established in 12 classes, 4 female classes and an attached medal. The classes were: Grand Cross, Grand Komtur with Turquoise, Grand Komtur of the 1st and 2nd classes, Komtur of the 1st and 2nd classes, Honorary Cross of the 1st and 2nd classes, Knight of the 1st and 2nd classes, Silver Cross of the 1st and 2nd classes 2nd class, as well as silver women's crosses of the 1st and 2nd classes -th classes. The silver medal as the lowest degree of the order was rarely awarded. It was awarded to men and women, the latter on the women's loop. The winners were: Ladies of the Brabant Star Medal.
