The Military Merit Cross, originally established by Duke William on December 11, 1879, was amended by decree of August 18, 1914. The reverse side is now called - E A - for Ernst August. Keep the original form. But the performance was issued with 8-sharp cross-shaped levers instead of straight ends. The assignment criteria were saved as in the predecessor. The cross was awarded for increased repeated and especially brave feats to soldiers, starting with sergeant major.
Gilded silver cross. The transverse arms respectively with 2 pointed ends are smooth and delimited by a raised double line. Front and back with round central shield. (15 mm) On the upper cruciform shoulder in the middle between the peaks, a soldered ordinary eye with a ribbon ring.
