The medal was established on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Duke Ernst I on August 3, 1903. This medal was received by all persons close to and belonging to the court. The medal was awarded only on the anniversary day of August 3, 1903. Only a small number of gold medals were awarded to principalities and silver medals to generals and high officials, as well as high-class women. A total of 18 gold medals were awarded - and 40 silver for the 50th anniversary of the government. The bronze medals shown here were awarded 2448 times.
