This order was presented by Duchess Charlotte during the Duke's absence from the war. Women and virgins were awarded for especially selfless feats and outstanding services in the service of military assistance.
The cross was originally made of dark tinted bronze, but at the end of the war the crosses were made of military metal (zinc alloy).
The design of the crosses was developed by the court construction council of Bechlert in Meiningen. They were made at the Berlin Mint.
The cross is made of bronze with a round ring. Front and back with a round central screen. The crosses are welded and have a raised edge. The insides are finely indented. A movable crown is attached from above, through a rich apple of which a ring passes for attaching a female loop.
