The provisional government of Schleswig-Holstein already established service awards for non-commissioned officers for its army on November 17, 1849. Service award crosses for contingent officers were presented only on January 23, 1850. Officers were awarded crosses for 30 years of service and 20 years of service. The cross for 30 years with the same design is gilded with silver and bears the Roman number 30 - XXX - on the front and back. The 20-year service cross presented here is made of silver with corresponding Roman numerals on either side. The award was regulated by the regulation of June 9, 1850. The service life in foreign armies was counted in the calculation. The manufacturer of official award crosses was Georg Hossauer (1794-1874), a court jeweler in Berlin. Already at the end of March 1851, the Schleswig-Holstein army was disbanded. Due to the very short rental period and the small army contingent, these crosses are extremely rare.
