The cross was presented on the occasion of the silver wedding of His Royal Highness Prince Friedrich Karl Alexander and his wife Princess Maria (Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach) on May 25, 1852. The festivities lasted 3 days. On May 26, the country's shooters holiday was held at the shooting ranges of the Guards Jaeger Battalion. The commemorative sign was awarded in gold (gilded) and silver. All participants in the national shooters' holiday received the silver cross. The Golden Cross was awarded only to the winners. 82 rifle guilds with approximately 1,056 shooters took part in the celebration. Hence the approximate number of awards. Guilds and members had to make a contribution to the participation from which the funding was made. Crosses were made on the Berlin Medal. The design of the cross is found on commemorative crosses of 1864-1866.
The cross was worn on a horizontal ribbon decoration of orange ribbon with white side stripes held centrally by a white ribbon with black side stripes.
