This commemorative medal was instituted on 20 October 1932 by Duke Carl Edward in a personal letter. The medal was established in gratitude for the friendly efforts on the occasion of the wedding. The award was attended by a letter signed by the duke. There are medals with different arrangement of points in the date. Either the points are located at the bottom, or, as here, in the center. Princess Sibylla (18.1.1908 - 28.11.1972) was the eldest daughter of the last Duke of Saxony Coburg and Gotha. She married the eldest son of Crown Prince Gustav VI. Adolf of Sweden, Gustav Adolf von Bernadotte (22.4.1906 - 26.1.1947). The civil wedding took place on October 19, 1932 in West Coburg. The registrar was the burgomaster and national socialist Franz Shved. The groom's grandfather, King Gustav V, remained aloof from the wedding ceremony in protest. 5 children were born in the marriage, Margareta, Brigitte, Desiree, Christina and the only son Karl Gustav. He was created in 1973 as Carl XVI. Gustav King of Sweden. In total, the medal was awarded 275 times. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. III, 1999.
