Renewal of the Iron Cross by William II. In the 1st World War it consists of 3 classes of the Grand Cross, 1st class and 2nd class. The class for non-combatants was assigned to persons who did not take part in hostilities, but nevertheless deserved, be it a civil servant or a nurse. For services received at home, it is awarded a white ribbon with black side stripes (edging). Applies to members of voluntary medical care and individuals who have served in the Army or Navy or served as Army or Naval officials.
The Iron Cross was "reburied" until 1924. This concerned, in particular, prisoners of war, unfulfilled petitions from the war and subsequent petitions. The deadline for applications was set for 31.05.1924.
The cross consists of a silver (also silver-plated) 2-part coffin, the latter soldered. The front and back sides of the coffin have a 2-step edge raised inside, from which the inner edge is shaded with a semicircular and small transverse stroke. Between them is an inner cross of blackened iron (magnetic). Inner non-ferrous metal crosses are also known. On top is a soldered eye with a ribbon ring. On the ring of the tape are the embossed letters of the manufacturer. Many manufacturers are known, each with its own identifier.
