On the occasion of World War I, a medal fund was probably planned for the Leopold Order with swords. The medal was established on February 29, 1908 by Prince Leopold IV. donated. Until 1910, only silver and bronze medals were awarded. The gold medal was established on May 30 of the year.
Execution with swords was planned, and court goldsmith Karl Büsch was authorized by the Lippische Hofmarschallamt to produce several examples. Karl Busch's company from Hanover delivered on September 30, 1914 7 silver medals with swords and 6 bronze medals with swords. October 10, 1914 was awarded another 6 bronze medals. The gold medal is in the Lipp State Museum. The manufacturing order is not detected. For unknown reasons, the fund was not implemented. There were no awards then either. How many medals are left is unknown. Although there was no reason, the medal is among the awards and is extremely rare.
