The State Railway Workers' Association was founded in 1904 as the governing body of many local railway clubs. The full name was "Allgemeine Verband der Bahnbahnerverein der preussisch-hessischen Staatsbahnen und der Reichsbahn." Many local and state-limited associations of small railway companies were gradually incorporated into the union as its central governing body. The membership icon shown was entered after creation. In 1905, the association included 463 clubs with 285,000 members. By 1914, the number of clubs had risen to 837 with 547,000 members. At the time, Germany's railways employed about 700,000 people. Given the relative rarity of the mark, it can be assumed that not all members possessed the mark, and it probably had to be purchased and paid for privately. The only known manufacturer is Moritz Stumpf & Sohn from Gdansk. Founded in 1804 by Karl Stumpf, the company was known throughout Europe for high-quality gold, silver and amber works. The Tsar commissioned her to work on the Amber Room in St. Petersburg. Erich Albert Moritz Stupf ran the company from 1898 under the name Moritz Stumpf & Sohn. In 1917, the Union of State Railways was transformed into the "Union of Officials of the Prussian-Hessian State and Imperial Railways." The organization of rail workers was banned early to exclude union or political goals. Existed since 1865 organized by the owners of the association of railway workers as compulsory membership. On 13 January 1897, the German Railway Workers' Association (VdED) was founded. The goal was to organize savings and credit offices, sick pay as sick pay, etc. After World War I, large state associations disbanded. In the Weimar Republic, countless small clubs of switchmen, loaders, teamsters, etc. have re-formed at the local level. Estimates suggest more than 100 clubs.
