The founding of the traditional Gau sign for East Hanover took place on July 18, 1933 by Gauleiter Otto Telshov (27.02.1876- 31.05.1945). The occasion was the NSDAP Gautag for East Hannover on July 15 and 16, 1933 in Harburg-Wilhelmsburg. The date of foundation is the day of the first award. Gau Osthannover was founded on October 1, 1928. Telshov after a military career and participation in the 1st World War served as an inspector of a field hospital, in Hamburg - the chief secretary of the police. There he was dismissed, as he was a member of the radical populist and anti-Semitic German People's Freedom Party (DVFP), among others, the district leader in Harburg, and then the party leader in Stade and Lüneburg. In 1925 he joined the NSDAP. From 1928 to 1945, he was a Gauleiter in East Hannover, and from 1930 - a deputy of the Reichstag. The award ceremony took place in 3 stages: gold, silver and bronze. The presentation included a certificate of ownership with a registered party number. The first awards were made to party members with a membership number of less than 100,000. In 1934, the circle of awardees was expanded to honored fighters of the GAU. What requirements were imposed on various stages, I do not know. The badges occur as hollow embosses or as shown herein as solid embosses. The sign is very rare at all stages. Source: J. Nimmergut, German Orders and Insignia until 1945, vol. IV.
