The breast star depicted here was awarded to Grosscomture, the second highest class of the order. Grosscomtur and komtur received the same order cross. Large komturas additionally wore this pectoral star. The number of domestic grand comtours for Mecklenburg-Strelitz was limited to 6. A total of 22 large comtours were made. Suppliers were Godet in Berlin and Lasne in Paris. Awards were awarded between 1864 and 1918 45 commanders. Due to the need to return, insignia were repeatedly awarded.
This order was created jointly by the Grand Dukes Friedrich Franz II. established in Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Friedrich Wilhelm in Mecklenburg-Strelitz on May 12, 1864. It consisted of 4 classes: a large cross, a large komtur, a komtur and a knight. The number of awards was limited for both grand duchies. A merit cross in gold and silver was attached. Crosses were awarded with 2 different decisions. 1. Mecklenburg-Schwerin: "Per Aspera ad Astra" (Through density to light) and 2. Mecklenburg-Strelitz: "Avito viret Honore" (It blooms in generic honor). The medallion behind, respectively, with different letters - F F -, for Friedrich Franz Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, or - F W -, for Friedrich Wilhelm Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Four-beam, diamond-shaped thoracic star made of silver. The star consists of 48 separate rays bordered laterally by narrow lines. On the front side is a relief round gold and enameled medallion. The reverse is smooth silver with a perpendicular pin with an opposite hook. In the center is a round lining.
