The award to officers was established jointly by two Hohenzollern princes, Prince Friedrich of Hohenzollern-Gechingen on February 19 and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen on February 25, 1841. Officers were awarded after 25 years of service in the ranks. Previous periods as a soldier and non-commissioned officer were credited, even if they were made in foreign countries. As usual, the war years were counted twice. The principalities, together with Liechtenstein, made up a joint contingent, which in the VIII century. The army corps was included. The contingent was very small. Hechingen provided only 145 men plus 72 reserve men, Sigmaringen provided 356 men plus 178 reserve men. Due to the short rental time until 1850, service award crosses, like all service awards, are extremely rare. Nemmergut lists five 1841 awards. Whether the award took place in other years is unknown. The only manufacturers and suppliers are P. Willet and M. S. Laubheimer of Karlsruhe. With Prussia's relinquishment of sovereignty in April 1850, the service award was no longer awarded.
