German Awards - World War II "Navy

The Navy is the nation's organized naval force. The Kriegsmarine, in addition to ships and submarines and their crews, includes attached units of air defense and missile forces. In addition, the Kriegsmarine includes shipyards and coastal bases for the construction and maintenance of fleets. With the development of fighter aircraft, the kriegsmarine also included air combat units. In World War II, aircraft carriers played a decisive role.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine from 1935 to 1943 was Grand Admiral Erich Raeder. In 1943 he was succeeded by Karl Dönitz.
