Awardees of the Women's Corps Medal

The award was established on July 29, 1943. The Women's Army Corps Medal was awarded to all women who served alongside men during the difficult years of World War II, in specialized corps: the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and the Women's Army Corps. History of the Women's Army Corps Service Medal Established by Executive Order 9365, signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt on July 29, 1943, and announced in War Department Bulletin No. 17 (1943). It is a round medallion depicting the helmeted head of the goddess of war, Athena, against a background of a sword, oak, and laurel branches. The inscription "WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS" appears around the rim. On the reverse is an eagle holding a scroll on which, against the background of two large letters "US", is written "FOR SERVICE IN THE WOMEN'S ARMY AUXILIARY CORPS", below the scroll the date 1942-1943 (In the case of service in the Women's Army Corps "FOR SERVICE IN THE WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS" and the dates 1943-1945), in a circle are 13 five-pointed stars.
