According to the regulations, the Infantryman's Honor Clasp could be awarded to officers and soldiers of the ground forces and the Waffen-SS for heroic actions and brave conduct in combat, but their merits could be below the level required for the Knight's Cross or German Cross.

This award occupies an intermediate position between the Knight's Cross and German Cross on the one hand, and the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd classes on the other.

The first award ceremony took place on October 20 In 1944, Major Viktor Bruk was awarded the Infantryman's Honor Clasp. Since its inception, it has been awarded to approximately 4,566 people.

Description of the Infantryman's Honor Clasp

The German Army infantryman's honor clasp was made of tombac and gilded. It was shaped like a wreath of oak leaves, entwined at the bottom with a ribbon tied in a bow, with a swastika in the center. There were two types of the award, determined by the manufacturing method. The first type was pressed from a single piece, while the second type had the wreath and swastika made separately and then welded together. The swastika is equipped with four flexible pins on the reverse side, which were used to attach the clasp to clothing.

Clasp dimensions: width - 24.5 mm, height - 26 mm, wreath thickness - 5 mm.

The award was supported by a ribbon consisting of red, white, and black stripes, repeating the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd Class; the ribbon is 24 mm wide.

The award was presented in a black box lined with white satin.

The award is worn on a ribbon threaded through the second button of the uniform. If the recipient previously wore the clasp to the Iron Cross 2nd Class of 1939, they could wear the Infantryman's Honor Clasp instead.
